where can I buy these as in walk into a store and not purchase online? in california? possibly near los angeles? theyre tiny balls that u soak in water and they get bigger theyre gummy and they look like marbles? like this

1. Taxonomy & Collections: an emphasis on grouped collections of similar items
2. Tsarist Russia: A tendency to gravitate toward ornate and elaborately gilt single objects such as bronze Dore mantle clocks to reassert our wealth in small ways in our home
3. Machines of Learning: In Victorian times they developed a love for machines that visually represented the "invisible world".  Look for Armillary spheres and celestial globes to become more popular as a collectible.

WPA DECO

"We've recently survived one of the largest economic downturns in American history, which is why we might be feeling similar to those that lived through the great depression. The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was the government bailout of its day and put around 3.3 million people back to work beautifying our country and rebuilding our infrastructure. It stays memorable largely due to the visual artists who left an entire body of work chronicling America in that day thanks to Uncle Sam." - Bill

1. Sepia Tones: All things brown and dark and moody will crop up for artists and graphics designers, especially in Photography.

1. Deco Sculpture: Simple, smooth, and chiseled forms in stone.  Stone is the key and will start to edge out metal as the chosen material for sculpture.
2. Stone: The translucent quality of stone, like alabaster marble, will crop up more in kitchens, come back in sconces, and be part of large rock crystal table lamps.

 

 

THE 1980S ARE STILL BACK

1. Industrial "N.Y. Loft": all white boxes, with pops of black metal and natural wood
2. The Tone-On-Tone Interior: often in pastel shades (pastel pale blue, pastel pale green, pastel pale yellow, and the new one to watch for - mauve)
3. The 80s Pop-Graphics Look: bright neon and primary color interiors with clean hard lines and pattern
4. Deco Redux: the eighties loved the 1920s and did Deco their way, now we will see more true WPA style Deco again often with some textural twists from the 80s era.

 

 

ENVIRONMENT & SCULPTURE

"Healing the planet and the recent climate conference are bringing a lot of attention to the environment. Combine this with nature inspired forms and natural materials and you get a real green movement in design. Once again, artists are exploring the role of sculpture, individuality, nature and what environment really means. Be prepared to see design interiors looking less like a furniture showroom and more like an artistic immersed surrounding of environmental sculpture." – Bill

1. Atypical eco-friendly: Items that don't necessarily seem eco but really are.
2. Reclaimed wood: used in furniture and interiors
3. Steel: rusted Corten is best but look for this in sculpture and architecture and interiors.
4. Gold replacing silver: as the dominate metal for jewelry and interiors.
5. Sculptural furniture: furniture of wood and plaster that will be whimsical and figurative
6. Handmade studio furniture: mostly out of wood, bronze, and other metals will dominate high-end interiors.
7. Environmental sculpture and graphics: will be seen in art and public spaces
