How can I learn to ice skate?
I feel retarded because I am 18 years old and don't know how to ice skate. I am like the only one out of all of my friends who doesn't know how and m parents never taught me. I don't really care to learn actually but I feel embarrased and I can never go ice skating with my friends. I am also afraid that this guy I am hanging out will be mad if we can't go ice skating together and think that I am boring.
There are probably adult ice skating lessons you could take, though as someone mentioned they cost money, sometimes a lot. If you don't want to spend money, go to a rink and hold onto the boards as you skate around. The best way is to use a stool or chair or something of the sort (I know a rink by me has some things that look like walkers people can use to hold on to for balance) so you can skate all around and can go at whatever pace you want and still keep your balance. I don't know where you live, but maybe you can find an outdoor rink or lake that you could bring a chair or stool too? Bring a friend too, they can help give you pointers, or if you feel to embarrassed skating with a stool or the rink won't let you do it, make your friend help you out.
Just remember to keep your knees bent and lean more forward than backwards. At the beginning, exaggerate the knees bent, stick your butt out if you must. Eventually you'll find your center of balance and be able to skate just fine.

A Great Pass Time Ice Skating in Leicester
One of the great things to do during those winter hours is to pass the time ice-skating in Leicester. The Leicester On Ice has everything anyone who enjoys the ice and skating would want or need to have a great time. Considering this is an outdoor ice rink however, it is important to note that it could be closed in bad weather and unforeseen circumstances. Rarely does that happen though as the Leicester On Ice can be open in all types weather. The best thing to do is dress warm and bundle up and the rest is pure fun! Ticket prices are reasonable and these can also be purchased in advance. Different prices apply for different ages as well.
Also, there is an Ice Café that is open the same hours as the ice rink and another great past time of course is none other than watching others ice skating in Leicester. The environment is safe and ice marshals are on duty continuously to watch and offer assistance should you need it. Even small children are seen have a great time ice skating because here it is said that if a child can stand, then a child is welcome to skate. There is no limit to the fun and time to pass at the Leicester on Ice. And, remember skaters that get a chill can also enjoy the café for warm drinks and snacks too. A chance to take a break, get a bit warm, and then back to the fun of ice skating in Leicester.
Adults that don’t feel like skating however has children that do want to ice skate can accompany the children to the rink and simply watch. Children that are the age of 12 and under have to be with an adult in order to ice skate. Although the ice rink has some regulations and dos and don’ts the fun never ends.
The only thing unpleasant about the rink is when it closes. Otherwise there you will see smiles and hear the laughter of happy children as well as adults.
