Rabbit Pregnancy!~help me out?
okay about two days i rescued a rabbit. she was severely malnourished and i just had too rescue her. when i arrived at the shelter she was housed with another "female." well after feeding her and getting her settled into her new home, i noticed her extremely plump belly, which was weird because other than that, she was very thin. i do know how too palpate. so i did and felt many large grape sized balls. she is obviously pregnant, but because the rescue organization obviously didnt know what they were doing bcz they housed the two together, [male and female] but the problem is how am i going too know when they are due??? i dont have a calendar too mark the date bcz i wasnt a the shelter too know when they bred!?! what should i do?
BenjaminC's answer is fairly accurate. You will need a nest box for her. I would get one soon and give it to her within the next week. She will need it to build her nest in. This will keep the kits together and safe for the mother to care for them. Watch her and she will let you know by her actions when she is getting ready to kindle.
I have been raising rabbits for over 16 years and I handle the kits from the day they are born. No need to worry about the doe rejecting them as long as she is comfortable with you. So for now work on gaining her trust everyday.
Since she is in fairly bad shape she may loose the litter. Do not be too disappointed if she does. Also if she has a large belly but is otherwise skinny she most likely has parasite. She will need to be wormed but that will have to wait until after she kindles. Wormers can damage kits. Do use wormer for her as soon as the kits are a week old. Then it will be safe for them to get some of the wormer through the doe's milk.
